Craniosacral Therapy for Teenagers and Adults

Are you or a loved one; suffering with persistent pain, feeling anxious, depressed or overwhelmed, struggling with mental health, living with a long-term health condition or degenerative disease, in pain after an illness, surgery or accident, having trouble sleeping or struggling with the menopause?

Working with me to release emotional stress and physical tension in the body can relax your nervous system and help you reclaim your health and vitality.

How Craniosacral Therapy (CST) helps you and your loved ones

Our natural state of being rests in vitality and health, but from an early age, adverse life events happen, with physical injury and emotional pain getting trapped in our bodies. This is documented by Bessel Van Der Kolk in his famous book, ‘The Body Keeps the Score’. As a way of feeling safe, we automatically bury deep within ourselves overwhelming events that we can’t process in that moment, and we learn to compensate in order to carry on with our busy lives. Compensation is an effective strategy, as long we have the resources to manage it; symptoms develop when our body is no longer willing or able to maintain these compensations. Then further life events happen- pregnancy, injury, bereavement, a new job – all at once, physical and emotional symptoms become impossible to suppress and ignore.

How we work together

In order to release this pain, there needs to be a mind – body – emotion connection. I offer a safe space, use light touch and gentle enquiry to help my clients work out what the original cause of the pain is, and where it is held in the body. The body appreciates this deep listening and intuitive touch and, at its own pace, is able to process and integrate past trauma.

Integrative Baby Therapy for Families; babies, children and their parents

Is your baby; crying inconsolably and finding it hard to settle, still distressed even though you have met all of their needs, suffering with colic or tongue tie, having sleep and/or feeding issues, unable to move their neck and head to one side or making the same movement over and over again and you don’t know what it means?

Is your child; struggling with behavioural problems, finding it difficult to concentrate, having problems socialising, sleeping or with nightmares, feeling overwhelmed or showing signs of neurodiversity?

How Integrative Baby Therapy (IBT) can help your family

Babies

IBT acknowledges that a baby’s in utero life and birth can feel painful and overwhelming at different stages, for many reasons. These experiences leave babies with emotional and physical tension in their body, referred to as imprints. IBT allows space and time for babies to express these underlying prenatal or birth imprints. Babies express their story through baby body language and memory crying, which is different from a ‘present moment needs’ cry, such as hunger, tiredness or boredom. IBT works with the inner impulses of the baby and supports natural self-regulation, where this has been disturbed.

Children

If our earliest experiences are not heard and integrated, further adverse life events add to existing imprints, and children can go on to struggle in aspects of their daily lives. Children express this through baby body language, patterns of behaviour and verbalisation. They may have been given a diagnosis. Parents notice these imprints at times of stress, change and transition such as starting school, tests and adolescence. Parents tend to think that it is ‘just the way they are’, but in fact the child is acting out the these imprints from the past as a way of trying to clear them. These behavioural patterns can be integrated with support, patience and understanding.

Adults

Often our behaviour as adults is an adaptive response to our earliest experiences. We may act in a certain way under pressure or tense our bodies in particular circumstances without knowing why, but we always repeat the same pattern. IBT offers us a safe space to work out what our patterns are, where these patterns are held in the body and from which part of our early life they came from, so that we process and release them.

How we work together

I use my CST and IBT skills to work in a deeper, more intuitive way with parents/care-givers, babies and children. I help babies, children and adults to tell their story. I also support parents/care-givers in a non-judgemental, safe space so that they can understand their children’s expressions, and also are able to acknowledge their own feelings. IBT helps strengthen the whole family in their experience, so they can know each other and be together in a deeper and more settled way.
